Pavement

The Pavement Committee is responsible for developing and facilitating best practice in the design and construction of pavement and the procurement, management and execution of pavement maintenance contracts.

The committee's main objectives are to ensure:

  • that Roading New Zealand is the foremost source of best practice for the procurement, management and execution of pavement maintenance contracts
  • that clients/stakeholders have confidence in Roading NZ members’ ability to produce quality work
  • that the land transport infrastructure industry is aware of and is using current best practices
  • that current best practices are reviewed and revised to maximize benefits to the industry and road users
  • that clients/stakeholders support the best practice documents.

The committee's Stabilisation Working Group recently completed a specification for in situ Stabilisation of Modified Pavement Layers (TNZ B/05), which has been adopted by NZTA and several projects stemming from this work are under way.

Another sub-group has been working with Professor Philippa Black of Auckland University on publication of a document describing aggregates in the North Island, including marginal aggregates and their engineering properties. Download a copy here . . .
